FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRODUCTIVITY PRESS UPDATES MOST WIDELY USED AND RECOGNIZED BOOK ON LEADING BUSINESS PERFORMANCE AWARD CRITERIA

New criteria include focus on organization's business ethics and governance systems

NEW YORK…Considered America's highest honor for performance excellence, the Baldrige National Quality Award was established by Congress in 1987 to recognize U.S. organizations for their achievements in quality and performance and to raise awareness about the importance of quality and performance excellence as a competitive edge.

With Baldrige Award Winning Quality - 15th Edition - - How to Interpret the Baldrige Criteria for Performance Excellence, by Mark Graham Brown, Productivity Press continues to offer the definitive reference for interpreting the Baldrige criteria.

Highlights include:

  • Criteria of leadership and the role of senior management in the award process.
  • Importance of a long- and a short-term strategic plan.
  • Where and how to satisfy the requirements for demonstrating effective "process" and "results".
  • List of state award programs based on the Baldrige criteria.
  • Core values and themes that underlie the award.
  • How to avoid common mistakes when completing the application.
  • "Rules" to use when preparing graphics and charts.
  • How to weigh the importance of the 33 "Areas to Address".
  • The significance of the Baldrige scoring scale, and its role in achieving performance excellence.

The most widely used and recognized resource on the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, this book, updated annually, is a simple and comprehensive resource for understanding the exhaustive criteria of the nation's leading business performance award, and is the only book to detail every category, examination item and area to address within the seven categories of the criteria: Leadership; Strategic Planning; Customer and Market Focus; Measurement, Analysis and Knowledge Management; Human Resource Focus; Process Management and Results.

Significant changes in the Criteria booklet for 2006 include: The language throughout has been adjusted to better address nonprofit organizations as well as for-profit businesses; Item Notes have been added that specifically address nonprofit organizations; Each Criteria Item title now includes a simple question that encompasses the central concept of the Item; "Employee" has been added to the Glossary of Key Terms, and minor wording improvements have been made throughout the Criteria booklet.

The Baldrige Award is presented annually by the President of the United States to businesses -- manufacturing and service, small and large -- and to education and healthcare organizations, which apply and are judged to be outstanding in the seven criteria areas. These criteria are designed to help organizations enhance competitiveness by focusing on two goals: delivering ever improving value to customers and improving overall organizational performance.
